PEREGRINA PM 50131 (1998)
The time range of the compositions extends from 1969 to 1996, including the last -until the time of the release of the cd- compositions of Theodorakis, on the two poems of his brother, Yannis Theodorakis, the Lyricotata (track nr 14 & 15). The oldest composition on this cd is The Oracle, composed in January ‘69 in Zatouna and the autobiographical I had three lives, composed in September of the same year there, which is recorded here for the first time. First recorded also are Silent Shadows from the Ballads circle, as well as the three Negro Songs, set to poetry by the first President of Senegal Leopold Sedar Senghor.
Unique interpretations by Maria Farantouri, which decisively seal the first recordings and give a new dimension to the second ones, such as the songs on Karyotakis poetry. Her voice together with the excellent orchestrations of the talented pianist Henning Schmiedt ensure homogeneity in Asmata (Songs), justifying their title. The brochure includes the poems and a composer’s text in Greek, English, German and French.
