I Cherished the Dream

MINOS ΕΜΙ 0602547850690 (2016)

An idea of Maria Farantouri -the coexistence of different generations of artists in the work of Mikis Theodorakis- becomes reality in this album. Socrates Malamas, Alkinoos Ioannidis and Yannis Haroulis arrange and perform songs by the great Greek composer in their way. The album ends with three songs arranged by Takis Farazis and performed by Maria Farantouri.

Mikis Theodorakis thanks them all for their sensitivity and their work:
Thank you, because your love for my work moved me deeply and made me feel happy. Affirmation for the artist is a life purpose. And when it comes from his colleagues and even with the wealth and quality of work and with the stamp of recognition from a wide audience that you have, then the joy and satisfaction is even greater. Especially for me that from the very beginning I have been in conflict with our musical establishment, your creative engagement with my songs is a valuable confirmation of the correctness of my views.

I am proud of you, because on your merit you have become selected members of that Greek musical family that expresses more than anything else the spiritual power of our cultural tradition, which – especially today – offers endurance, hope and strength to our people.

In conclusion, I would like to characterize this initiative of Maria Farantouri as a sign not only of her love for me and my work, but above all of the great responsibility that distinguishes her attitude throughout her life, with the first goal being the lasting rebirth of Greek Music.

I wish you all every success
