Silence 8,46
Independent Production
12 November 2025
A protest song against all forms of violence and discrimination. A denunciation of the stereotypes and prejudices of a society that denies freedom of expression and choice. A tribute to the victims of racism and diversity denial. Maria Farantouri, faithful to a career spanning more than sixty years, remains on the side of the oppressed and lends her voice once again to a young artist, interpreting his music and lyrics in a captivating and moving way.
Silence 8.46 refers to the amount of time that African American George Floyd was pinned down by police officer Derek Chauvin, who caused his death by asphyxiation. The song is dedicated to him and to Zack Kostopoulos, an activist for the LGBTQI community and HIV-positive people, who was a victim of a homicide by vigilante justice and complicity.

Silence 8.46
Don’t talk about what’s right again,
I don’t want to hear it anymore,
here they call me Zack and George
and here I will breathe my last.
As long as you see differences,
you will never, ever know,
you will always be the winner
of the most lost battle.
You choke me in the throat
the last word.
A tribute to murder
silence eight forty-six.
An invisible rain falls,
the streets run without sound,
autumns will come again
but I will be gone.
