The night of Theodorakis - Miquel Jurado
The article is a review of the concert of M. Farantouri and Maria del Mar Bonet at Auditori, in Barcelona, in 28.12.2000.
The Mediterranean settles in Greece of Mikis Theodorakis thanks to the presence of Maria Farantouri, but also to the familiar interpretations of Maria del Mar Bonet. They are two women who have dedicated more than half their lives to spreading Mediterranean culture to the four points of the horizon, something that, unfortunately, can only be achieved in the arts.
The fact that Maria Farantouri has not performed in Barcelona since 1983 is a slip that should be seen as an artistic scandal. This return of Farantouri to Barcelona, with the hand extended by Bonet and with the excellent performance and wonderful sensation she left the world, would be unfair if it were to fall on deaf ears and not be able to return to Spain and regain her audience.
With the passage of time Farantouri’s voice has reached limits of an incredible depth. She has managed to express the essence of each melody and convey it to the audience with great sensitivity and a natural approach.
