Homage to the 100th anniversary of Mikis Theodorakis’ birth.

A special musical evening dedicated to an iconic figure of Greek and world music is being hosted this year at the 50th anniversary of Aeschylia Festival. On the 100th anniversary of Mikis Theodorakis’ birth, the festival honours the great composer with a tribute performance full of emotion, history, and art.

The leading performer Maria Farantouri, inextricably linked to the work and personality of Mikis Theodorakis, invites us on a musical journey through songs that accompanied the most important moments in modern Greek history. With her deep, expressive voice, she brings to life landmark works that combine poetry with resistance, lyricism with collective memory.

At her side, the great actor Gregoris Valtinos takes on the narrative role of the performance. With theatrical eloquence and sensitivity, he illuminates aspects of Mikis’ life and work through excerpts from poems, thoughts, and autobiographical texts by the creator himself.

The evening is a meeting of music and words of high aesthetic value. Through Theodorakis’ melodies, set to the lyrics of Ritsos, Elytis, Seferis, Gatsos, and Anagnostakis to music, the audience will be transported to a world full of ideals, struggles, beauty, and emotion.

It is a celebration of culture, dedicated to the composer whose work transcended borders and eras, embodying the values of freedom, faith in humanity, and culture. A tribute that highlights the timelessness of his work and the power of art to unite people and eras.
