Enraptured Night
Greece, Ancient Epidaurus, Little Theatre
Saturday, 16 August 2025, 21:30
The leading performer Maria Farantouri, iconically identified with Mikis, together with baritone Tassis Christogiannis, one of our most important performers of the lyric stage, join their voices to present a repertoire that highlights the deep lyricism of Theodorakis’ multi-faceted musical work. According to the composer: ‘I’d like to believe that all my works -from the simplest song to the most elaborate symphonic- belong to a single musical unity.’
Excerpts will be heard from the last song cycle composed by Mikis, The Odyssey, set to poetry by Kostas Kartelias (2006), as well as from the cycles The Lyricals, set to poetry by Tassos Livaditis (1976), and Beatrice on Zero Street, set to poetry by Dionysis Karatzas (1994), works that belong to the last period of his creative lyrical life. Of course, more well-known and beloved songs from his earlier song cycles will also be performed, set to lyrics by great poets and lyricists.
A magical evening with these two unique performers dedicated to the deeply lyrical and melodic dimension of the work of our great composer.
