Silence 8:46
Diatopo (2025)
A protest song against all forms of violence and discrimination. A denunciation of the stereotypes and prejudices of a society that denies freedom of expression and choice. A tribute to the victims of racism and diversity denial. Maria Farantouri, faithful to a career spanning more than sixty years, remains on the side of the oppressed and the unjustly treated and lends her voice once again to a young artist, interpreting his music and lyrics in a captivating and moving way.
Silence 8:46 refers to the amount of time that African American George Floyd was pinned down by police officer Derek Chauvin, who caused his death by asphyxiation. The song is dedicated to him and to Zack Kostopoulos, a Greek activist for the LGBTQI community and the HIV-positive people, who was a victim of a homicide by vigilante justice and complicity.
