France, Our Beloved Sister

France, Our Beloved Sister…, ed. Ol. Descotes, Hestia, Athens, 2013.
Language | Greek, French.

One hundred and fifty prominent figures write about their relationship with France in this bilingual publication, organized at the initiative of the French Institute to mark the fortieth anniversary of the restoration of democracy in Greece. Among these figures is Maria Farantouri, who, in 1967, with the imposition of the dictatorial regime in Greece, left for Paris and lived there as a political refugee.

…Today, as I return to Paris, I remember those days with emotion, the difficulties, but also the warm friendship of the French. This country has left its mark on me, and I owe a great deal to it for my subsequent journey. I do not forget it. It is, for me, a lifetime of gratitude.
Maria Farantouri
